Local ANZAC Day Commemorations: Dawn Services, Marches, and Ceremonies

Want to know what is happening in Bayside on ANZAC Day? The Beacon team has put together a guide for you.

This year there will be an ANZAC Day dawn service hosted by Botany RSL Sub-Branch and Bayside Council at 6AM on Tuesday 25 April.

There will also be a pre-ANZAC Day march from Mascot Library to Mascot Memorial Park on Sunday 23 April.

Other local sub-branches will be hosting services around the area. Plus, our local clubs and pubs will have special events and activities during the day for you to enjoy. These are listed below.

Pre-ANZAC Day March - Sunday 23 April 2023

Mascot RSL Sub-Branch & Bayside Council
2:15PM: March from Mascot Library to Memorial Park.
2:40PM: Wreath laying service at Mascot Memorial Park, Coward Street, Mascot.

ANZAC Day Dawn Services - Tuesday 25 April 2023

Botany RSL Sub-Branch & Bayside Council
6AM: Memorial and wreath laying service at Booralee Park, corner Bay and Daniel Streets, Botany. To be followed by a light meal and refreshments in the park afterwards.

Arncliffe RSL Sub-Branch
6AM: Meeting at the cenotaph at Arncliffe Park, 71B Wollongong Road, Arncliffe. The dawn service will include a bagpiper, bugler, drummer, choir, catafalque party, the raising of an aboriginal flag for the first time and the Federal Minister of Indigenous Australians, Hon Linda Burney, will be attending.

6AM: Memorial and wreath laying service at the Memorial next to the RSL Club, 251 Bay Street, Brighton Le Sands.

6AM: Dawn and wreath laying service at Earlwood Bardwell Park RSL Club, Hartill-Law Avenue, Bardwell Park. Refreshments will be provided at end of service.

6:30AM: Assemble at the corner between Shaw Street and Kingsgrove Road
7AM: March to Kingsgrove Memorial Park
7:15AM: Service

Ramsgate-Rockdale RSL Sub-Branch
6:30AM: Assemble at the Sans Souci Literary Institute, corner Campbell Street and Ramsgate Road, Ramsgate.
7AM: March to the Ramsgate RSL Club, led by the St George Sutherland Pipe Band.
7:30AM: Memorial service MC'ed by John Mangos and includes readings by local school students. Service to include a catafalque party and snare drummer. Service will conclude with a wreath laying ceremony.

Maroubra RSL Sub-Branch
4:30AM: Dawn service, held at the cenotaph opposite the Juniors Maroubra, Anzac Parade, Maroubra Junction. Gunfire breakfast served to people attending the service.
11AM: Meeting at Maroubra Road & Garden Street and march west to Anzac Parade then south to the cenotaph.
11:30AM: Commemoration service to follow the march.

One Drop Brewery
Open from 11AM-8PM at 5 Erith Street, Botany. They’ve got the Happy as Larry food truck on site and Two-Up from 12PM. Enjoy the live music brought to you by Prototype from 2-5PM.

Open from 9AM at 1114 Botany Road, Botany. Kitchen open from 11AM, Two-Up from 12PM hosted by Luke and George Burgess, Easts v Saints from 4PM, and live music in the beer garden.

Wellside Bayness Beach Event
From 7AM-12:30PM at Cook Park, Ramsgate. Morning meditation 7-8AM, calisthenics 8-10AM, yoga 10-11AM, ice baths 10:30-11:30AM, and a social gathering from 11:30AM onwards.

Other information

Five days of Double Demerits
Double demerits are in place in NSW for the ANZAC Day public holiday from Friday, 21 April though to the end of Tuesday, 25 April inclusive. Be aware that on Monday 24 April 2023, school zones will be in operation during a double demerit period.

Shopping on ANZAC Day
Most shops must remain closed until 1PM. Small businesses that are exempt from the morning trading restrictions include bakeries, pet stores, florists, petrol stations, cafes and restaurants.

Coles, ALDI and Woolworths will be open from 1PM.

Closures
Bayside libraries will be closed all day.
